A mountain bike was stolen in Wyke, Weymouth between 7.30pm on 31 August and 7.25am on 1 September.
Unbelievably, it was removed off the top of a blue Audi estate car parked outside a house on Connaught Road. The Specialized Rockhopper SL Comp mountain bike is very distinctive with a red and white frame, white saddle and thin road tyres.
Police Constable James Vincent of Weymouth police said, “The theft of this bicycle has caused the owner, who was visiting family from Bicester in Oxfordshire at the time, great distress and would be very expensive to replace.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen this theft take place or has information about those responsible to get in touch with Dorset Police on 101.
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have purchased this bike for an unusually low price or in strange circumstances, or may have been offered it for cash.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 01:143. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
