A meeting to examine the Police and Crime Commissioner’s recommendations for next year’s (2014/15) police council tax charge will be screened live online.
The crime panel is made up of representatives from the county council, all of Dorset’s borough and district councils, Bournemouth and Poole councils, plus two independent members.
It was set up to scrutinise the decisions of the Police and Crime Commissioner. Reviewing the commissioner’s council tax proposals is one of the group’s key tasks. The panel has the power to recommend that the commissioner reconsiders his proposals if members are not happy with them.
Cllr John Adams, Chairman of The Dorset Police and Crime Panel, said: “The panel does a very important job in holding the police and crime commissioner to account.
“Over the past few months, panel members have been working hard to get a good understanding of his budget so they are prepared to take a view on any council tax proposals presented to them on 6 February.
“The budget situation is complex but the job of the panel is to ensure that Police and Crime Commissioner has considered the implications and alternatives relating to any proposal put forward.
“It is vitally important that people know the panel is working in their best interests. Not everyone can get along to council meetings. Having the meeting available to watch on the internet is a step forward in helping people understand the group’s work.”
