Spin it, weave it, make it into felt – there is a lot you can do with sheep’s wool.
A group of Year 7 pupils from Allenbourn Middle School recently had the chance to find out all about wool production and its uses when the school was visited by Chrissy Hancock from Wessex Conservation Grazing near Dorchester.
Under her expert eye, children spun, wove and made colourful felt buttons and badges during their textiles lesson.
Having learned about the different properties of various fabrics, the group will go on to design and make mini versions of clothing for specific purposes.
“It was such fun,” said one pupil. “You get to see how the wool turns into fabric by actually doing it yourself.”
