The outgoing Chairman of East Dorset District Council, Cllr Malcolm Birr raised £7,500 for his two charities during his year of office. It is being split equally between Marie Curie Cancer Care and Home-Start South East Dorset.
The money has been raised through a variety of activities including a race night, a concert at the Barrington Centre in Ferndown, collections at Sainsbury’s stores and the raffling of a painting of Wimborne Minster specially provided by local artist, Paul Dolman.
Cllr Birr said: “I am delighted that we have been able to raise so much in aid of my two charities. I am most grateful to so many people who helped and gave so generously to help these worthy causes.”
Cheques were presented to representatives of the two charities at the annual council meeting which marked the end of Cllr Birr’s year of office.
