In the 60s, he designed and printed postcard cartoons to be sold in aid of the RNLI. In the 80s, he paddled round the Isle of Wight in an inflatable canoe for the RNLI. He also climbed up Cadair Idris (as a competition) to raise funds for the Wessex Scanner Appeal in Salisbury’s Odstock Hospital.
Now, before his knees and muscles give out, Rob Forrester-Addie has given himself another challenge.
He intends to climb Scotland’s highest peak (the highest in the UK) Ben Nevis on Father’s Day weekend (14 June). Rob said, “My son agreed to accompany me and my wife Joy suggested that the climb be ‘sponsored’, so we decided on a local charity that had already benefitted from some of our Ringwood U3A activities.”
Up and down the country, there are groups formed and being formed to bring First Aid as quickly as possible to any local emergencies. These are the Community First Responders. Rob said, “Our Ringwood one is run by Dennis Hann. The First Responders are the landlubbers’ version of the RNLI. They are trained by the NHS and can attend the local emergency within minutes to give the ‘patient’ the best care until the hospital ambulance arrives. Those precious minutes saved could be the difference between life and death.”
