BJ Waltho, qualified nurse of 36 years and Associate Director of Operations for the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals, has been elected Vice Chair of Congress for the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
The annual debating forum is the nursing showcase of the year for thousands of nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and nursing students. It is the first time anyone from the hospital Trust has been awarded such a significant role. It is also especially poignant as next year’s congress will be held in Bournemouth.
BJ has been involved with the RCN for over 20 years and has been attending congress for 15 years. She was elected into this prestigious role by her peers.
Geoff Earl, RCN Scotland board member, said: “Having spent the past four years as a highly respected member of the RCN Congress Agenda Committee, BJ has demonstrated leadership and approachability skills. Nurses across the UK can feel confident that as our new Vice Chair their views will be listened to.”
BJ said: “I always leave congress feeling inspired and regenerated and I really encourage staff to attend and take full advantage of this educational, social and networking opportunity.
“It is also a great opportunity for our Trust to have a greater voice nationally – highlighting any issues we want to and raising our profile by sharing our good practice.”
BJ will work with key individuals to develop a diverse agenda and deliver the congress successfully and effectively, ensuring it runs smoothly. The hospital Trust will also be one of many exhibitors at the event taking place at the BIC from 21-25 June.
