Wimborne Town notched up their fourth straight victory in all competitions with a memorable win at Dorchester Town in the FA Trophy last weekend. Unavailability of key central defenders meant Wimborne entered the fray with a remarkably youthful back line, pitched up against higher level opposition. The youngsters did the Magpies proud however, and Wimborne mounted a committed rear-guard action, interspersed with fast and clinical counter attacks. Matt Kemble gave Wimborne a first half lead, and a brace from Mark Gamble either side of a Dorchester consolation snuffed out any hope of a come back from the home side.
Last Tuesday night, the Magpies also progressed in the Dorset Senior Cup, courtesy of a single goal from Gamble. With one eye on Saturday’s FA Trophy tie, Steve Cuss fielded a young side, who did what they needed to do. Dan Burton-Hemmings in particular caught the eye with a skilful man of the match display.
Not to be outdone by their senior counterparts, the Wimborne Town U-18s play away at Oxford City in the First Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup last Tuesday night. The Magpies’ youth side have already dispatched three other teams to get this far, and manager Nick Hutchings will be keen to keep the run going, in the hope of eventually earning a plum tie against league opposition.
