Annual parades and services to remember those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom that we enjoy today, will be held on Sunday 9 November. This year will be particularly poignant as 2014 also commemorates the centenary of the start of World War 1.
Parades in the local area include:
BOURNEMOUTH: Remembrance Day features two formal parades made up of ex-service men and women and youth organisations. The Youth Contingent sets off from Exeter Crescent at 10.35am followed by the Adult Contingent at 10.40am. They march through the Town Centre to the War Memorial to take up their positions.
If you are unable to march the whole distance, you may join the Parade as it enters the Gardens, or you can go straight to the War Memorial. Limited seats will be available for those unable to stand on a first come, first served basis. Seats cannot be reserved.
The Remembrance Day Service is held at the War Memorial in Bournemouth’s Central Gardens and begins at 10:57am. A two minute silence will be held at 11am. which will be indicated by the firing of a field gun provided by the Royal School of Artillery.
The Service is led by representatives of local churches, the Jewish Community and the Dorset Humanist Association but all are invited to take part – a Public Address system will broadcast the Service and Orders of Service will be distributed amongst members of the public. It wall last about 40 minutes and will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony.

FERNDOWN – leaves King George V Playing Field to St Mary’s Church at 2.30pm arriving at the church at 2.50pm. Dorset Military Vehicles will be in the parade for the first time.
WEST MOORS – parade along Station Road with a Service at the War Memorial at 11am.
WIMBORNE – leaves the Royal British Legion Clubhouse in West Borough at 2.40pm. Be seated in the Minster by 2.45pm for a service at 3pm. Wreath laying afterwards at the War Memorial and 2 minute silence. the column will march back to West Borough where the salute will be taken by the Lord-Lieutenant for Dorset.
THE TANK MUSEUM, BOVINGTON – This service will be attended by serving soldiers, veterans and their families, but visitors are also very welcome to join in the service which commences at 10.30am. Visitors are asked to assemble by 10.15. It will take place in The Tamiya Hall. Two minute silence at 11am. Following this, a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Royal Armoured Corps Memorial outside the Museum.
POOLE PARK – Parade leaves the Cricket Pavilion for a service at the War Memorial In Poole Park. The service will begin at 10.50am. The Salvation Army band will accompany the congregation in hymns. There will be no vehicle access to Poole Park on Sunday 9 November between 6am and 1pm to allow the parade and service to take place. Those taking park include serving military personnel and veterans as well as the crew of HMS Cattistock, Poole’s affiliated warship. A further act of remembrance will take place at the Civic Centre on Tuesday 11 November from 10.30am. VERWOOD – 9.30am Service in St Michaels Church. 10.45am March from St Michael’s to Ferrett Green. 11am short service followed by laying of wreaths at the Memorial Stone on Ferrett Green.
RINGWOOD – 10.45am Service in the Parish Church followed by a Parade to the War Memorial.
