Students from All Saints School and Westfield Technology College in Weymouth recently attended a workshop aimed at building confidence between drivers and young people.
The event for the young people and bus drivers was held at the Community Fire Station in Weymouth and was organised jointly by Dorset County Council and First Buses.
The workshop looked at ways in which confidence and trust can be built up between bus drivers and young people. The workshop allowed time to discuss the issues that both groups face and used role plays to explore common scenarios.
Toni Coombs, the council’s Cabinet member for education and communication said: “We’re so pleased this first workshop was such a success for both the students and the bus company. Hopefully, it might even encourage other public transport providers to run similar courses.”
The students from All Saints School and Westfield, a Dorset Deputy Member of Youth Parliament, as well as four drivers from First Bus took part as well as a representative from Bus Users UK, who will be featuring the event for their national newsletter.
First Buses are already exploring how to replicate the workshop format across the South West region.
