Poole Young Carers with Cllr Adams and Cllr Rampton
Young carers across Poole will receive an extra present this Christmas thanks to Borough of Poole’s Wishing Tree, which is returning for a fifth year.
The Wishing Tree has been decorated with gift tags representing over 160 young carers, who range from 5 to 17-years-old. Staff and members are invited to choose a tag and donate gifts suitable for the child their tag matches.
Some of the young carers who can look forward to receiving the gifts visited the Civic Centre on Wednesday to help hang the gift tags on the tree, as well as being invited by the mayor for refreshments in his parlour.
Cllr Peter Adams, Mayor of Poole, said: “Poole’s young carers are an amazing group of young people and it was a pleasure to welcome them to the Civic Centre, especially as they are one of the charities I am supporting during my mayoral year. I hope that the Wishing Tree will mean they all receive an extra gift this Christmas.”
Cllr Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, Borough of Poole, said: “The young carers in Poole perform an incredible task every single day, supporting their sick or disabled parents or siblings. Some have a disability themselves, and all are deserving, which is why this year I would like to make sure that each and every one of them has a surprise present for Christmas.
“Staff and members have been very generous with the Wishing Tree in previous years, and I would like to thank them in advance for their help bringing extra joy to the festive season for these remarkable young people.”
