A man has been jailed for three years with an extended licence period of a further two years for a vicious Christmas Eve assault on a woman in Lyme Regis.
Scott Meyers, 31, of Lyme Regis, was handed the jail term at Dorchester Crown Court today, Monday 8 June 2015. He was convicted on Friday 8 May following a trial at the same court.
Meyers and his victim, who were known to each other, had been drinking heavily in Bridport town centre throughout the day and evening of Wednesday 24 December 2014 when the attack happened.
The court heard Meyers struck his victim as he drove the woman back to his flat.
At one point on the journey Meyers stopped his car and forced the woman into the boot. The woman managed to break free by kicking through into the main part of the car.
When the pair arrived at Meyer’s flat, the defendant hit the woman in the face with a baseball bat. Meyer’s victim suffered a broken nose, a bruised face and bruised stomach.
Detective Constable Declan Cummings, of Weymouth CID, said: “Scott Meyers was responsible for a brutal and violent attack in which he hit and punched his victim before forcing her into the boot of his car. He then drove the woman back to his flat and hit her in the face with a baseball bat.
“I am pleased with the verdict of the jury and hope this will serve as a very strong warning to Meyers and abusers like him that this type of violent behaviour will not be tolerated in Dorset. You will be caught and brought to justice.”
