Dorset based Prostate Cancer Support Organisation (PCaSO) has received a cash injection to continue its vital work.
Parley Rotary has presented Jim Davis, chairman of PCaSO, with a cheque for more than £1,100. The money is to be used not only to provide men from across the county with free PSA (blood) tests but also to provide free counselling for those whose test indicates a possible cause for concern.
On accepting the donation, Jim Davis said: “This money will help fund four more of our test sessions, including the next two – one on 17 September in Dorchester and one in Kinson two weeks later. Some slots are still available at both venues and can be booked by ringing me on 01202 580436.
“Since we started offering this service three years ago, 3,000 men have been tested, 15% of who were directed to their own doctor for further investigation. Of the 70 men who were subsequently diagnosed with prostate cancer and treated, several would probably not be alive today had they not been tested by PCaSO.”
