Town Centre Strategy approved for Ferndown
Following recent approval of the Town Centre Strategy for Ferndown, the town and district councils have now been joined by Dorset County Council to work on the proposals.
Ferndown Town Council along with East Dorset District Council and Dorset County Council are working on proposals for the delivery of a number of key projects aimed at breathing new life in to the town centre following the recent approval of the Town Centre Strategy for Ferndown.
The first meeting of the three councils has taken place to agree priorities and make sure the local community, businesses and local organisations are kept involved and informed. An initial list of seven projects have been identified for further investigation.
Chairman of the implementation group Cllr Mike Dyer from East Dorset District Council said, “There was overwhelming support from the public for the proposals in the strategy and the job now is to get on and implement them. We are keen to develop some more detailed proposals on individual projects and check that the public and local businesses and organisations still support them.”
As well as distributing information about the strategy in the local area there are also plans to set up a stakeholder group in order to ensure there is a regular dialogue between the councils and the various interest in the town.
Although it is anticipated that some of the larger projects may take a number of years to be developed some immediate work will be undertaken to help improve the support for local shops and businesses in the town centre and create a more positive message about what the town has to offer.
