The Crumbs Project showcased trainees’ skills by hosting a special Mother’s Day lunch on 29 March. Over 30 guests enjoyed a seasonal meal, which was prepared and served by Crumbs’ mixed ability trainees.
Jessica, trainee at Crumbs, who joined the centre last May, has battled with a severe anxiety disorder, agoraphobia. Her condition led to her being confined to her room and disconnecting herself from society.
Jessica has always had a keen interest in cooking, which is why her support worker recommended Crumbs as a first-step to her recovery and regaining control of her life. Commenting on her Crumbs experience, Jessica said, “I thoroughly enjoy my days at Crumbs. I now feel as though I’m giving something back rather than being dependent on others. Crumbs is helping me to become more independent and confident- and I hope to one day be able to get a full-time job.”
Jessica continued, “Thank you to Crumbs for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to showcase my skills. I am very nervous, but pleased to have been chosen for this challenge.”
With the support of the Crumbs Team and her fellow trainees, Jessica was responsible for preparing and serving the lunch on the day.
Food Services Manager, Erika Sloper commented, “I am truly impressed at the way Jessica has taken this challenge, from costing the menu to the finer detail considering what vegetables and herbs are in season to dietary requirements. Jessica has a natural flare for cooking and has become a great asset to any Catering establishment and we are extremely proud of everything she has achieved.”
Crumbs hosts monthly showcase lunches which are open to the public, this is a perfect opportunity to find out more about the work Crumbs does and support trainees in their journey to independence.
