Climate crisis ‘heads-in-the-sand' protest near Boscombe Pier this Thursday
Extinction Rebellion is hosting a 'heads-in-the-sand' action near Boscombe Pier on Thursday 25 June, to protest government inaction on the climate crisis.
Afterwards, there will be a procession to the offices of Tobias Elwood MP to deliver a letter calling for urgent action. Social distancing guidance will be followed.
The protest is timed to coincide with the publication of the Committee on Climate Change annual report to parliament which is expected to show little progress.
Members of the public are invited to join the group from 7am on Boscombe beach where smartly dressed rebels, labelled as cabinet members and Dorset MPs, will put their heads in the sand. The procession, which will feature music, singing and flag waving will leave the beach at around 8.30am. The letter will be read out before being handed over at the MPs office.
Adrian from Bournemouth said, “The lack of action from government is nothing short of criminal. The scientists are now saying that Net Zero by 2050 is too late and we aren’t even going to achieve that. We need massive changes to decarbonise our economic system and our carbon intensive lifestyles.”
