School children from across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole created artwork to encourage visitors to beaches, parks and heathlands to take their litter home and respect the environment. There were nearly 300 entrants.

Coral’s mother, Keri said, “Coral is delighted to have won the primary category; I am super proud of her. She is always drawing, painting and making things so it has given her such a boost. We love the beach and were so disappointed by the rubbish left so this was something she really wanted to help with.”

The runner up was Ruby from Burton School.

The secondary school winner was Kye P from Grange School with runners up Corben at The Grange School and Amelia C at Bourne Academy.

Ellen B won the Post 16 Bournemouth & Poole (Foundation Learning group), with Georgina J as runner-up.

The artwork – which was created in full colour and either hand drawn, painted or digital – aimed to encourage visitors to respect the environment. All the artwork received can be viewed at https://www.bournemouth.co.uk/ideas-and-inspiration/leave-only-footprints/signage-competition and each school will have some of their artwork used across a range of signs along the seafront which will be on display next month during the peak summer holiday season.

Cllr Vikki Slade, Leader of BCP Council said, “We have been overwhelmed by the standard of artwork received and would like to thank all the children who took their time to create these innovate pieces. We hope that these messages will help visitors to respect our environment and to think twice before leaving litter.”
