Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre has been recognised as a great place to get work experience.

BCP Council’s placement scheme at the attraction has been named as sixth out of 60 organisations nominated in the Top Medium-sized Businesses category in the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards.

This puts it ahead of Toyota, Adobe, Porsche, the Met Office and Samsung.

Founded by RateMyPlacement.co.uk over 12 years ago, the National Undergraduate Employability Awards are voted on by the placement students themselves.

Cllr Mark Anderson, portfolio holder for Environment, Cleanliness and Waste, said, “We are enormously proud of this achievement. The NUE Awards showcase the passion, innovation and dedication of teams managing undergraduate workplace schemes and I would personally like to thank the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre team for putting us amongst the UK’s leading organisations in this regard.

“We are committed to providing our young people with a nurturing environment, high-quality education and great opportunities to grow and flourish, but this has to start with our own organisation: this achievement shows that we are doing just that.”

Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre, which is owned and operated by BCP Council, provides students with a range of work placement experiences, from providing information to visitors to helping the rangers with habitat surveys, wildlife monitoring and events. During recent restrictions, a Virtual Conservation Work Placement has instead been in place.
