A woman was bitten by a Staffordshire bull terrier following an incident at Iford and police are keen to speak to any witnesses.

At around 10am on Wednesday 31 March a woman in her 50s was walking her dog on a lead at Iford playing fields. She was in the field that is near to the river and by a bridge leading into a second field when it is reported that two men with dogs came toward her.

They were walking an elderly brindle Staffordshire bull terrier, a grey and white Husky and two small dogs – one was similar to a Shih Tzu and the other one was a ginger Chow-sized dog.

The Staffordshire bull terrier ran over to the victim’s dog, which was sitting down beside her, and she asked the owner to retrieve the dog as hers is very nervous.

As the owner retrieved the Staffordshire bull terrier, the Husky – believed to be called Nala – ran toward the victim’s dog and tried to attack it.

The victim sustained a puncture wound during the incident that required medical treatment.

The male dog owner is described as tanned, approximately five feet ten inches tall of slim build with short brown hair that had grey flecks and was receding at the temples. He also had a short beard with a moustache and was wearing jeans.

Police Constable Jennie Sykes-Martin, of Dorset Police, said, “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened to please get in touch.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who recognises the dog owner from the description given.”
