Follow the South West Coast Path to Old Harry, which will eventually lead to the top of the cliffs overlooking the rocks. Views are spectacular and if you’re lucky you may even see dolphins. You can continue along the cliff top to Swanage, but please note the cliffs are dangerously sheer around Old Harry and are not fenced, so keep dogs on leads and children carefully supervised. When we reached Old Harry, we turned back and cut across the wide-open green space, perfect for a picnic. If you sit and enjoy your sandwiches, do remember to take your litter home.  A group of volunteer litter pickers say they are always saddened by the amount of litter they find in this beautiful location.

At the far end of the wide-open green space is a hedgerow and part way along is an entrance into a unique, cool area of woodland with a proliferation of wild garlic. The woodland is characteristic of withy beds and has a magical feel to it.

We wound our way out of the mystical woodland and re-joined the same path we’d taken on the way to Old Harry, but followed it back towards the car park. A short distance further on and we came across a path to the bay, which we took to Studland beach. We walked along the sandy beach before returning along a path to the Bankes Arms. This pub offers spectacular views and when it reopens after lockdown is bound to be popular due to the large outdoor dining area and relaxing views.
