Walk for Dorset hospitals this September
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity’s first ‘in person’ event will start from Somerley House on 4 September.
We’ve all been going on lots of walks over the past 18 months, so why not raise money for the NHS at the same time?
Following the launch of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, uniting the hospital charities supporting the Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch hospitals, an ease of government restrictions means the charity’s flagship fundraising event, Walk for Wards, is to return.
The annual sponsored walk will take place on Saturday 4 September with participants gathering in the prestigious grounds of Somerley House to take on a route of either 3km, 5km or 10km, all in aid of raising funds to support their local hospitals.
As University Hospital Dorset NHS Charity’s first ‘in person’ event, Walk for Wards will be taking place on a larger scale than ever before and attendees will be able to enjoy a festival feel through the addition of family friendly entertainment, stalls and activities.
In previous years, supporters successfully raised an average of £44 per person and this year those taking part are encouraged to see if they can exceed this amount to support the Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Hospitals as they recover from the pandemic.
Attendees have the opportunity to do something amazing for an area of the hospital close to their heart as they are able to donate to a specific hospital, department or ward of their choosing.
Sara Fripp, fundraising manager at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, said: “It’s been a long time coming and we are so excited to hold our first ‘in person’ event as University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. What better way to support our upcoming hospital projects than spending time with loved ones whilst exploring the stunning grounds of Somerley House. This year’s event has so much to offer and really gives supporters the opportunity to make a difference and say thank you to their local NHS Heroes.”
The newly formed charity now supports over 800,000 people in the Dorset area and will use funds raised to continue to support and develop areas within the hospital that lie beyond what the NHS can fund.
Entry is £10 for adults and children under 16 are able to take part for free.
