This theatre company, along with others in the area, has been mindful of the pandemic and so chose a play with a cast of just three.

This, of course, is a challenge for actors as they have more lines to learn!

However, the cast – in what is described as ‘a mesmerizing thriller with plenty of twists and a liberal dash of comedy’ – really comes up to the mark, needing no prompts.

It tells the story of Gordo, a hypnotist who encounters a policeman during his stage act with extraordinary repercussions.

Chris Hugill’s experience with a number of local theatre groups is displayed to the full as Gordo, and he gives a totally convincing performance as the hypnotist – and no the audience in the hall didn’t all fall asleep!

Andrew Murton gets under the skin of the senior CID officer, one moment mild mannered, and the next unscrupulous.

The part of Helen, his wife, is in the very safe hands of Sali Pike, despite it being only her second full length play for the company. She puts plenty of energy into the part, and clearly enjoys all the subterfuge.

The split stage set is excellent – well done designer Peter Watson – with the action seamlessly switching from one room to another.

The choice of play was good, with the ending difficult to predict. See if you can get a ticket.
