Yarmouth Road in Poole to be resurfaced
Work starts next week and will continue for around three weeks, so motorists should allow extra time for their journeys.
Motorists planning to travel between Bournemouth and Poole next week will need to allow extra time for their journeys.
From Monday 13 February, BCP Council begins essential work on Yarmouth Road, from Alder Road to the Bourne Valley roundabout.
Yarmouth Road will be temporarily closed to through traffic for essential resurfacing work.
The carriageway will be resurfaced in a series of short sections and will take place in three phases:
Phase 1: Monday 13 to Friday 17 February – from Bourne Valley Road roundabout to outside No.57.
Phase 2: Monday 20 to Friday 24 February – from outside No.57 to the junction with Guest Avenue.
Phase 3: Monday 27 February to Thursday 9 March – from the junction with Guest Avenue to the signal junction with Alder Road.
The resurfacing work is part of BCP Council’s annual highway maintenance programme and will take approximately three weeks to complete.
A BCP spokesperson said: “Yarmouth Road is a busy residential route and now in a condition that requires much-needed resurfacing work to make it safe for the future.
“We appreciate that this will cause disruption to the flow of traffic in the area, but the resurfacing work is vital to prevent damage to vehicles and make journeys smoother for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors in the future.
“Work has been scheduled during the half term week to help lessen the impact on traffic, but drivers should take the simultaneous closure of the nearby Herbert Avenue for a wastewater sewer connection by a contractor into account when planning their journeys.
“Where possible, drivers should avoid this area during peak times, seek out alternative routes, explore sustainable travel options and allow extra time for their journeys.”
Each closure will be in place 24 hours a day and remain until each section is safe for residents to drive on.
The footways will remain open to pedestrians, but barriers will be in place to assist them in crossing the road.
A diversion for Yarmouth Road is in place via A3040 Alder Road, Wallisdown Road, Glenferness Avenue, Branksome Wood Road and Surrey Road.
