A beautiful period thatched cottage in Holt was almost destroyed by fire last Friday evening.

Twelve fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled the blaze which started in the roof.

Firefighters were called at 5.58pm and remained in attendance for most of the night.

Holt Lane was closed through the night, with local residents advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

The majority of the householders’ possessions were saved and no-one was injured.
