Held in aid of Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, the Muddy Dog Dash event took place at Upton Country Park in Poole on 26 March.

There were 2km and 4km obstacle courses around the park for people, their dog(s) and loved ones to take part in with many of them having lots of fun in the mud.

Care South hosted residents in the ‘event village’ outside the tearoom at Upton County Park, which was the perfect spot for residents to explore the event stalls, have lunch, and watch the runners and their dogs in action.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care provides care to patients and their loved ones facing a life-limiting illness. Their important work increases people’s physical and social wellbeing, reduces isolation and loneliness and alleviates the huge pressures on family and carers.

Sam Baker, activities lead at Dorset House, said: “We understand the joys and benefits that animals, not just dogs, can bring to us all. That’s why we work with local partners that bring in furry friends to visit. Many residents in our care used to own pets, and whilst they may no longer be able to care for their own, we make sure they are still able to enjoy seeing them by either coming to us or making a trip out to see them. Interacting with a friendly pet is known to help residents, and everyone was so pleased to welcome lots of dogs for many calming cuddles.”
