Wimborne Coronation Celebration – a special community event – 7 May
Wimborne Business Improvement District (BID) is inviting everyone to enjoy a special community event to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
The Wimborne Coronation Celebration will take place on 7 May in Wimborne Town Centre from 11am until 7pm.
Across the country the Palace is encouraging towns, cities and local communities to join in the ‘Big Lunch’ on Sunday 7 May as part of the three-day countrywide celebrations.
Wimborne will be joining in with the Big Lunch in style!
Patriotically dressed benches and tables will line the High Street in readiness for everyone to bring their family and friends to enjoy a great day out. Local restaurants and shops will be ready and waiting to sell their wares so that visitors can enjoy a fabulous picnic in the town centre.
On the Square will be a stage with live music from local bands and artists.
The focus will be a ‘through the years’ celebration of our new King’s life from the 1950s onwards until the present day. 1950s’ Aphrodite Singers will be the first on stage bringing everyone songs they will know or recognise from years gone by. Moving into the 1960s there will be Andy Kennett singing rock ‘n’ roll songs including Elvis and much more. The Seventy Nine is the group representing the 70s – flares are optional! Rubiks Kube will be looking after the 1980s and getting everyone up on their feet to dance to the music.
A musical bingo gameshow will be taking place in the afternoon where Wimborne businesses and residents will be invited to take part as teams just like on the TV.
Ending the evening will be a duo called BH2, they will get everyone in the party mood and will be playing a medley of music and songs from the 90s onwards.
Children’s entertainment will be brought to the green in front of Wimborne Minster by Little Gizmos Entertainment – watch out for some favourite children’s characters and some fun workshops. Face painting, a fair and some local craft stalls will also be in place for further enjoyment.
A souvenir brochure has been produced, sponsored by Pulford Publicity, that will be available in businesses and distributed to local residents prior to the event as well as on the day. A full programme of activity will be within.
Wimborne BID Manager Tammy Sleet said: “It is a joy to be able to put on a community event like The Big Lunch in order to help celebrate our new King’s Coronation. We hope many visitors will come into town on Sunday and the weekend to browse the shops, buy their lunch and enjoy the celebration. We are pleased to be working with Stir Events in order to deliver this special celebration event”.
