Bournemouth Youth Marching Band to play at Hampton Court Palace
The team of more than 60 musicians has been invited to march in Palace Parade Review on 30 June.
Bournemouth Youth Marching Band (BYMB) has been selected to take part in London Band Week on 30 June, where they will march through the gardens at Hampton Court Palace near London.
The band will be performing alongside His Majesty’s Royal Marines Band, as well as two university bands from America who are flying to the UK especially for the occasion.
Since BYMB was selected on New Years Day, its members have been working tirelessly to put on a show fit for the historic royal residence. On the day, the team of over 60 musicians, some just eight years old, will set off from Dorset to march in the Palace Parade Review in the King’s Garden. All participating bands will be critiqued on their performance and musical skills during the event.
On the same day, BYMB’s Corps of Drums will demonstrate a number of drum static routines in a bid to win the King’s Shield at the Battle of Flower Pot Gate.
Having performed with the State Trumpeters from the Band of the Household Cavalry at their annual Spring Concert in Ferndown earlier this year, the Dorset musicians are feeling fully prepared to take on the royal venue and showcase their skills.
Bandmaster Andrew Kinch says: “We are honoured to be performing at a world-renowned palace and we are very grateful to the directors of London Band Week for giving our members this opportunity.
“We are incredibly proud of our young musicians as they take on another busy summer schedule filled with parades and performances across the UK. Being invited to Hampton Court Palace is a befitting recognition of their tireless efforts in striving for such high standards”.
A registered charity, BYMB is volunteer led, run and supported. The band rehearses weekly while providing the instruments, uniforms, tuition and training to all members to perform in concerts, parades, displays and tattoos.
Standard entry tickets to Hampton Court Palace on 30 June will include the opportunity to see the Palace Parade Review and the DrumLine London events.
