Ringwood’s annual pedal car grand prix race cancelled
Organisers have made the tough choice to cancel the British Pedal Grand Prix, due to be held on 7 July.
The team behind the British Pedal Car Grand Prix 2024, scheduled for Sunday 7 July, have announced the decision to cancel the race.
The annual event, held in Ringwood, was due to return for its 37th race. The competition sees racers zoom through the town centre in home-made pedal cars.
Organisers say that the decision to cancel was not made lightly and was taken after extensive deliberation and consultation with stakeholders.
Several unforeseen circumstances forced the decision, the largest issue being the financial challenges driven by significant increases in the costs of holding the event, coupled with a significant number of local businesses having to reduce or cease sponsoring the event due to the current economic climate.
James Marley, chairman of the organising team, said: “We understand the disappointment this cancellation brings to our dedicated teams, sponsors, and fans who have eagerly anticipated this event.
“We’re devastated that we’ve had to take this decision, but with the increase in costs to run the Grand Prix, plus the challenging financial climate that has limited the amount that our sponsors can contribute to the event, it’s unfortunately the only decision that we could make.”
The organisers are now contacting teams that have already entered the event to inform them of the situation.
