Second arrest after hit-and-run collision in Weymouth
A second man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a car collision in Weymouth that left a pedestrian seriously injured.
A second man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car hit a pedestrian in Weymouth and fled the scene.
Last week, we reported news of a collision on the evening of 16 July involving two pedestrians and a car on Abbotsbury Road. One of the pedestrians, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital by air ambulance. The second pedestrian did not sustain any serious injuries.
It was reported that the car involved – a black Volkswagen Golf – failed to stop after the collision and was located later further down Abbotsbury Road, near to the junction with Alma Road. It was also reported that two male occupants had left the vehicle on foot and made off from the scene.
On Thursday, Dorset Police arrested a 24-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report a road accident. He appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday 19 July and is next due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 22 August 2024.
On Sunday, following further investigative work by police, it was reported that a 59-year-old man from Weymouth has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the collision.
