Eleven children from Bethany Junior School in Boscombe discovered the delights of preparing and eating fish at Rick Stein Sandbanks. The cookery lesson, arranged by Variety Wessex, gave pupils the chance to taste oysters, mussels, prawns and celebrity chef Rick Stein’s renowned fish and chips.
Chef Razvan showed the children a large Atlantic cod, a pair of live lobsters and a big common crab. He gave the children various cooking tips before demonstrating how oysters, mussels and prawns are cooked in just a few minutes and each child had the opportunity to taste the results before plates of Rick Stein’s Fish and Chips arrived for the youngsters to enjoy.
This was the fourth time Rick Stein Sandbanks has offered a cookery class for young carers and nurture group children from Bethany School. The lessons are part of the Variety the Children’s Charity “Great Days Out” scheme that aims to give disadvantaged children positive memories.
Elisabeth Rawson-Jones, pastoral lead at Bethany Junior School, said: “What an incredible learning experience this was for the 11 lucky children who attended.”
