Renowned historian to speak at Wimborne museum
British historian Ronald Hutton will give a talk at the Museum of East Dorset to coincide with the Wimborne Militia’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
To coincide with the eagerly anticipated celebration of the Wimborne Militia’s 25th anniversary celebrations, renowned British historian Ronald Hutton will speak at the Museum of East Dorset.
Hutton, who has written over a dozen books on topics including British history, paganism and witchcraft, and has made several television appearances, will give a talk entitled “Did Monmouth’s Rebellion Matter?”
Was the Duke of Monmouth’s rebellion in 1685 a justified stand against King James II? Did it truly matter in the grand scheme of English history? Professor Hutton will delve into these questions and more, offering fresh insights into this pivotal moment in time.
A spokesperson for the Museum of East Dorset said: “Professor Ronald Hutton is not just any historian. With 18 books and 95 essays under his belt, plus a seat on several prestigious panels, he’s a true expert in British history. This is guaranteed to be a fun and enlightening evening.”
The talk will take place at the museum in Wimborne on Thursday 5 September. Tickets cost £10 per person. Doors open at 6:30pm with the talk starting at 7pm. Wine, beer, hot drinks, and snacks will be available. Book a ticket by visiting museumofeastdorset.co.uk.
