Blandford Leisure Centre celebrates turning 30 with free fun day
A leisure centre in Blandford is hosting a free community fun day on Friday 30 August in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
The Summer Holiday may nearly be over, but if you’re looking for something fun to do in the last week of August, why not visit a free event in Blandford tomorrow, Friday 30 August?
Blandford Leisure Centre is hosting a community fun day to mark its 30th anniversary. There will be a range of activities, including free sports and fitness taster sessions throughout the day, from family swimming and adult gym classes to junior Taekwondo and football coaching. The sports hall will also be open for badminton, mini tennis and even basketball.
Entertainment will include a performance from Blandford Choir and a ukelele group demonstration. For children, there will be a bouncy castle, soft play, face painting and a colouring competition. There will also be musical theatre sessions for children aged between four and 12 in the Deer Park Studio.
The mayor of Blandford, Cllr Hugo Mieville, will be cutting a birthday cake and making a speech at midday.
The centre is run by Everyone Active in partnership with Dorset Council. Hollie Jones, area contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are so excited to host our upcoming open day in celebration of the centre’s 30th anniversary.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what Blandford Leisure Centre has achieved over the past three decades and we are honoured to have the mayor of Blandford join us to mark this milestone.
“It’s set to be a fun-filled day with activities on offer for all interests, ages and abilities, so we look forward to welcoming the community to celebrate with us!”
Cllr Jon Andrews, Dorset Council’s cabinet member for Place Services, said: “I’d like to thank everyone that has been involved in the running of Blandford Leisure Centre over the past 30 years.
“Leisure services are important to ensure people can stay fit, healthy, and socially connected, and we’re excited to see how our partnership with Everyone Active continues to benefit Blandford’s residents in the future.
“Please come along to this fantastic free event – there are activities for the whole family, and it’s a great opportunity to try something new.”
The event will take place from 9am until 3pm. For more information, please visit the centre’s website.
