Murder ruled out of death of man at a Dorchester holiday park
A couple are no longer under investigation following the death of a man who was found in Heron Lake.
In June, Dorset was shocked by news of a man found dead at the Warmwell Holiday Park in Crossways, near Dorchester, which Dorset Police initially suspected may have been murder.
A few months, and police have issued an update ruling out the involvement of a third party in the death, meaning no other individual was directly responsible for the person’s death.
Emergency services attended the scene on Sunday 23 June, after receiving reports raising concerns about the welfare of a man believed to be in Heron Lake, within the holiday part.
A man in his 70s and from Birmingham was found in the water. Very sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Subsequently, police arrested two people – a man and woman, both in their 50s and from Birmingham, who were known to the man who died – were arrested on suspicion of murder as further investigative work was carried out into the circumstances surrounding the death. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and both were released under investigation.
Today, the police have issued an update. After carrying out extensive enquiries, detectives are now satisfied there was no third-party involvement in the death and the man and woman have been released from under investigation. They will face no further police action.
Dorset Police will continue to carry out enquiries on behalf of HM Coroner as part of the inquest process.
