Wimborne serves up a new Food Festival this weekend
The inaugural Wimborne Food Festival will take place on Saturday 14 September, with stalls, samples and free talks.
This weekend, Wimborne Minster is hosting a new Food Festival, serving up culinary delights for local residents and visitors.
It will be held from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 14 September, visitors can expect tastings, samples, demos and free talks all around the town. The festival has been organised to celebrate the town’s many restaurants, cafes, bars, food and drink retailers and artisan producers.
The main festival site is at Willow Walk near Waitrose, which will feature food and drink stalls, a pop-up bar, and talks from local chefs. Visitors will also get the chance to meet Great British Bake-Off contestant Maggie Richardson.
Elsewhere in the town, East Street will be closed to traffic to offer alfresco dining, more stalls, a barbecue and live music.
Church Street and Wimborne Square will also be offering alfresco food and drink. And in Walford Mill, there will be a courtyard market selling family crafts.
On the Minster Green there will be free samples and recipe ideas provides by Wimborne and Colehill Fairtrade Community.
Also, local stores will be offering promotions and competitions to tie in to the Food Festival. Salamander Cookshop will be providings tastings and special offers, while Gulliver’s Bookshop is offering customers a chance of winning a recipe book.
It’s not too late to get involved with the festival yourself by entering the cake competition. Open to bakers of all ages, participants are encouraged to create their most delicious and visually stunning Dorset Apple Cake and bring them to the Marquee on Willow Walk at 2:30pm, where BBC Repair Shop star Sonnaz Nooranvary will be the celebrity judge. The top prize is Neff cooking pans worth £150, kindly donated by Dacombes of Wimborne.
The Wimborne Food Festival is sponsored by Wimborne BID and Dacombes of Wimborne. The managing director of Dacombes, Matt Renaut, said: “Wimborne has so much to offer when it comes to food and drink and this new festival is a wonderful way of showcasing that on one special day.
“Local businesses along with the support of Wimborne BID have worked really hard to make this happen and we hope it will become an annual event.”
