Swanage deaths – Dorset Council responds
Dorset Council has added its voice to those who are saddened by the deaths of residents in the Agincare-run Gainsborough Care Home.
Dorset Council has issued a statement following the tragedy in Swanage last week in which three people died at the Agincare-run Gainsborough Care Home.
The authority says it is “deeply saddened” by the news and that its thoughts are with the loved ones of those who tragically passed away.
It continued: “While we cannot comment on issues that are still being investigated by Dorset Police, it is right to recognise the dedication and professionalism of the emergency services and the incredible support of the community in Swanage, especially the leadership and members of All Saints Church, who opened their doors to become a rest centre.
“All the 44 residents from the Gainsborough Care Home have been placed into temporary accommodation, while the investigation continues, either in other Agincare homes, care homes across Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole or in hospital and we are ensuring they are being kept safe and comfortable.”
Cabinet lead for Adult Social Care, Steve Robinson, said: “I visited the site on Wednesday afternoon and spoke to a number of people dealing with a situation they could never have imagined, with profound care for the residents of the care home, many disorientated and disturbed by the situation.
“It was a privilege to see Health and Social Care services working alongside Police, Fire and Ambulance services. Every interaction I saw was conducted in such a way as to ensure people were treated with dignity and respecting their wishes as far as possible given the circumstances.
“Thank you again for showing such strength in such challenging circumstances.”
