Arnewood student appointed as Lord-Lieutenant Cadet for Dorset
Charlie Burroughs is one of just five cadets appointed by Michael Dooley LVO MMs FRCOG, the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset.
A student at the Arnewood School in New Milton has become one of just five Lord-Lieutenant Cadets for Dorset. Cadets will assist the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset Michael Dooley LVO MMs FRCOG at official engagements, Royal visits and at civic ceremonies throughout the year, proudly serving as ambassadors for the cadet forces.
The five cadets were appointed at the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset Awards ceremony at Thomas Hardy School on October 14. The ceremony was attended by family, friends, and community leaders.
Cadet Sergeant Charlie Burroughs joined the 171 Christchurch Air Cadets in 2020, where he has risen through the ranks and embodied the values of ‘dedication, leadership and commitment to excellence’.
Jamie Anderson, headteacher of the New Milton school, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Charlie who is a prefect and serves on the school’s student council.
“Being just one of five Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets is a huge achievement and is reward for his efforts in the cadets.
“The values he has espoused that led to his appointment are the same ones we champion at Arnewood.”
The other four cadets appointed during the ceremony were:
- Leading Cadet Katie Sadler from Portland Sea Cadets Sea Cadet Corp
- Leading Cadet Freya Kay from Poole Sea Cadets
- Cadet Flight Sergeant William Christian from Thomas Hardye School Combined Cadet Force
- Cadet Sergeant James Buik from Dorset Army Cadet Force
Lord-lieutenants are the King’s personal representative in a county whose roles once included organising militias.
