Lest we forget… Dorset commemorates Remembrance Sunday
Communities across Dorset commemorated the lives and sacrifices of those who have served in the Armed Forces on Remembrance Sunday.
Remembrance Sunday was held on 10 November to commemorate the lives and sacrifices of those who have served in the Armed Forces. Communities across Dorset held memorial services, parades and events.
Poole marked Remembrance Sunday with a service beside the War Memorial in Poole Park.
The people of Wimborne certainly showed their commitment to Remembrance Sunday with large crowds lining the streets to watch the parade to the Minster church for the afternoon service which was attended by record numbers. After the service, wreaths were laid at the War Memorial on the Minster Green.
In West Moors, Station Road was closed over to allow a procession led by Bournemouth Youth Marching Band to gather around the war memorial, where wreathes were laid by local community groups, schools, military associations and other organisations.
In Ringwood, a procession was led down Market Place and filled the War Memorial Gardens, where poppy wreathes were laid.
In Ferndown, an afternoon procession from King George V playing field to St Michael’s Church featured a marching band from Poole Sea Cadet Corps and was joined by several military vehicles and a fire engine.
