Golfing day at Woodlands for Bournemouth schoolchildren
Pupils from Bethany Junior School in Boscombe visited Remedy Oak Golf Club thanks to Variety the Children’s Charity.
Twelve lucky children from Bethany Junior School in Boscombe experienced a day at Remedy Oak Golf Club at Woodlands thanks to Variety the Children’s Charity.
The club’s head professional Dominic Knight took the group round the course explaining the roles of the fairways, roughs, greens and bunkers and pausing to watch golfers tee off and observe groundsmen busy clearing leaves and spraying fertiliser on the grass.
Then it was time to learn some golfing skills on the driving range. Dominic demonstrated how to swing a golf club to successfully send a ball flying down the fairway. Each child had a go and, with a little bit of guidance, everyone managed a reasonable hit.
This would, and probably should have been, the high spot of the day had it not been for Marta the assistant catering manager who let everyone pour their own fizzy drink with the bar’s special soda gun. There was also a demonstration of a golf buggy by Aaron the club’s operations manager. A sandwich lunch with hot chips followed, eaten in the club’s restaurant.
Club member Peter Jenkins who organised the event on behalf of Variety Wessex said: “it’s been a pleasure to watch these children enjoying their experiences here at Remedy Oak. They have been so well behaved and we have all had a fantastic time.”
Frances Cornelius, chairman of Variety Wessex, said: “Thank you everyone at Remedy Oak Golf Club for giving these children such a wonderful day, particularly Dominic for the individual tuition each child received and the fantastic experience of seeing, at first hand, such an impressive golf course, and on such a gorgeous sunny day. Thank you Peter for organising this wonderful day and thank you too Phil our Laguna driver who manoeuvred the coach so expertly down the narrow lanes and long driveway to the club.”
