Four days left to donate to Dorset charities via the Big Give
Residents of the county can double their donations to local charities by using the Big Give website.
Dorset residents have a few days left to make a donation to local charities via the Big Give website, which will double their donation through matched funding.
The Big Give Christmas Challenge began on Tuesday 3 December and runs until midday Tuesday 10 December, during which time all donations will be doubled.
Several charities, including Julia’s House Children’s Hospices, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, and Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity, are running campaigns on the Big Give website.
Diverse Abilities is calling on the public to help realise the charity’s vision of providing a year’s support for families of children with disabilities via raising money through the Big Give.
Helen Mortimer, head of fundraising at Diverse Abilities, said: “We are really excited to have teamed up with the Big Give this year, and to have the opportunity to double the donations given during this special week.
“The money is desperately needed to support our much-needed family sessions to make life that bit easier for these families.”
So far, has raided around £49,000 of its of £71,244 target. This money will fund sessions to support families with a child with special educational needs and disabilities. These families can often suffer from exhaustion and isolation, feeling unable to leave their homes. Every donation will provide sessions to help these families, from play sessions and a safe space for the whole family, parent wellbeing sessions, weekly sibling support groups and opportunities for families to create special memories together.
One parent supported by Diverse Abilities said: “In a time when we were so isolated and unsure, we were made to feel so welcome. Providing play opportunities and experiences that were once impossible, made possible. The endless support they have given us, you just couldn’t find that anywhere else. We couldn’t be without the charity, it’s our second home.”
