Basketball tournament in Poole to raise funds for Kenya projects
A Poole student is inviting young players to take part in a basketball tournament to raise funds for volunteering projects in Kenya.
Jacek Zralka, a 15-year-old pupil at St Edward’s School in Poole, is hosting a 3×3 basketball tournament in February in order to raise funds for a four-week long volunteering expedition in Kenya with Camps International.
Being held at the school in Dale Valley Road on Tuesday 18 February from 10am-5pm, the event is open to players aged 12-15 years and promises a day full of fun, competition, and community spirit.
There are 64 spaces available in the tournament, and the admission fee is £5 per person. Teams require a minimum of three players, and there are prizes worth £50 for the top three teams.
Together with a group of secondary school students from all over the UK, Jacek will be helping local communities with environmental projects. For example, they will be building elephant deterrent fences for the local Maasai community, planting trees, de-worming animals, making paper out of elephant dung and even renovating the house of a local community member.
This four-week-long expedition will involve community development work, environmental projects, and wildlife conservation in rural Kenya.
