A coffee morning was organised by West Moors Library to honour two of its Royal Voluntary Service volunteers who were presented with Long Service Awards on 27 June.
Judith Sweet and Elizabeth Bowler are both Home Library Service volunteers, delivering books to people who cannot easily get to their local library. Presentations were made by Lisa Knight, Royal Voluntary Service Locality Manager for Dorset & Wiltshire. Judith Sweet received her 10 year service badge, and Elizabeth Bowler her Long Service Medal and First Clasp, representing 27 years of volunteering for the RVS (previously WRVS).
Lisa Knight said: “It is an honour to meet with volunteers who have given so much of their time to supporting their local community. Volunteers are the lifeblood, not only of our organisation but of the country as a whole. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Judith and Elizabeth for all their work; it was a privilege to spend time with the volunteers in West Moors and thanks too to the library team for making us so welcome.”
West Moors Library has a team of dedicated Royal Voluntary Service volunteers who are able to visit on a regular basis, delivering books from the library to people’s homes, free of charge. Large print books and talking books can also be delivered. This service is funded by Dorset Library Service, and delivered by the Royal Voluntary Service. It is available across Dorset to anyone who cannot easily get to their local library, and can be provided on a temporary basis as well as long term. All Royal Voluntary Service volunteers are DBS checked and receive ongoing training and support. As well as the Home Library Service the Royal Voluntary Service can provide befriending, help with transport or shopping, and other things you might need – just get in touch with us and find out how we might be able to help. You can contact our team on 01305 23 66 66.
