The cheque is presented to Elizabeth Purcell, CEO of the Lewis Manning Hospice (second from right), by representatives of the five local Rotary clubs (clockwise from left): Roy Salmon (Wimborne), Linda Winter (Swanage & Purbeck), Hazel Hatch (Parley) , Anne Banks (Ferndown) and John Perry (Wareham).
The clubs, at Ferndown, Parley, Swanage & Purbeck, Wareham and Wimborne, were tasked to raise £5,000. The balance – part of the proceeds from the recent disbandment of the Wimborne branch of Dorset Association for the Disabled – was provided through John Slow (president of Wimborne Rotary) in agreement with fellow trustees of the association.
Elizabeth Purcell, CEO of the Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: “The cheque is a fantastic boost for the hospice and for the growing number of patients that rely on us for the help we provide at a particularly distressing time.”
Anne Banks, past president of Ferndown, the lead club, said: “Rotary clubs can only do so much on their own, and so much more when they combine their resources.
“Furnishing and equipping a room at the Lewis-Manning Hospice is a case in point and we are absolutely delighted that we could come together for such a worthwhile cause.”
