Dorchester Christmas lights event cancelled
A Christmas event planned for Brewery Square has been called off due to stormy weather warnings.
The Christmas Lights Switch On event planned for Brewery Square in Dorchester has been called off following stormy weather warnings.
Brewery Square had organised the event for this Saturday, 23 November, from 5pm. The event planned to include performers, live music, a skating rink and a Santa’s Grotto.
Unfortunately, warnings from the Met Office about the event have forced the organisers to cancel the event.
In a Facebook post, the managers of Brewery Square said: “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of our Christmas Lights Switch On, originally scheduled for Saturday 23rd November. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not in our favour, with torrential rain all day and winds of up to 50mph.
“This decision wasn’t made lightly and we have been holding onto hope, but we need to prioritise the safety of our performers, suppliers and visitors. With conditions like this, it simply wouldn’t be the magical evening we all envisioned!
“We share your disappointment as we know many of you were looking forward to this event. We had so much planned, but unfortunately, it’s not gone our way this time.
“But on a brighter note, The Dorchester Christmas Market is still going ahead and we’re already working on alternative ways to bring more Christmas spirit to Brewery Square. We hope you can all understand this difficult decision.”
The decision by Brewery Square follows the announcement by Christchurch Town Council that the planned Christchurch Christmas Lights Switch-On for Saturday 23 November has been cancelled over weather concerns.
