Dorset’s disability charity, Diverse Abilities, raised over £2,500 at a ‘Ladies Lunch’ at the Harbour Heights Hotel in aid of its Lilypad Appeal, which is refurbishing its children respite home in Poole to support more children and families in the county.
Sixty five local women enjoy a two course meal and heard from the event’s guest speaker, athlete Liz Yelling, and watched a fashion show hosted by local boutiques Fab Frocks and Beach & Body.
As well as local business women and parents of the children and adults Diverse Abilities supports, those in attendance included the daughter of the charity’s founder, Dame Annette Brooke former MP and patron for the charity and Sandra Redknapp.
Many that attended expressed their interest in a repeat event and one guest shared her gratitude saying: “Thank you very much for the lovely ladies’ lunch last week. It felt like real escapism to be out of the office for a few hours! Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, and we all also really appreciated the special touches, like the handwritten messages on our goodie bags.”
The money that was raised from the event will benefit the Diverse Abilities Lilypad Appeal, a project that involves the refurbishment and expansion for the children’s respite home for children with complex disabilities and their families. The amount raised at the Ladies Lunch for Lilypad will go a long way in achieving the final goal. With only £35,000 left to raise, events like the Ladies Lunch help to create an environment that children visiting the respite home will be able to make the most of.
