5 fun facts about Famous Dorset knobs
Have you heard of Dorset knobs? And before you hurry to say “yes” – we mean the biscuit variety. Made from traditionally fermented dough these famous nuggets of flavour get three separate bakings to give them a nice, crisp texture.

Dorset knob biscuits have been made for well-over 100 years by Moores of Morecombelake, a long-established biscuit-maker, founded in 1880.

The thrice-baked treats are often eaten with Blue Vinny cheese or dipped in tea or cider.

Since 2008 an underarm knob-throwing competition has normally taken place every year, but the Covid pandemic caused disruption. The next time you can compete is May 2022 at Cattistock.

There is an annual knob-eating competition. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic it went online for the first time in 2020, hosted by Dorset Tea and the Dorset Knob Festival, the virtual competition attracted over 70 entrants eager to stuff Dorset nobs down their necks.

Kate Scott from Shaftesbury won the first virtual Dorset knob-eating competition in 2020 keeping the title in her home county by gobbling nine-and-a-half biscuits in one minute.
