Musicians from the Band of the Royal Corps of Signals, Blandford, joined forces with musicians from Queen Elizabeth’s Upper School in Wimborne Minster for a workshop focusing on both Big Band swing and classical chamber music.
Principal clarinetist Lance Corporal Daniel King, returning to his old school said, “Working with these talented young musicians was tremendous, and we hope to continue to do so in the future. They sound fabulous. It was also a great experience returning to my former school and the new building is fantastic.”
QE’s Big band director and music teacher Steve Glover added, “We were very privileged to welcome members of the Royal Signals Band to our school and the students really loved playing alongside these inspirational professionals. There was a genuine buzz and the Big Band and Woodwind groups both sounded fabulous.”
Students were also given insight into the life of a professional army musician and were able to broaden their career knowledge through a face-to-face Q&A session.
QE’s Big Band has also been invited to play in this summer’s prestigious Swanage International Jazz Festival, a first for the school.
I’ve heard QE’s big band at their school concert last week and they are really good. Can’t wait to hear them again in the Hinton Martell fete, and at Swanage in July.
