Tandem Cycle Dorset Blind Association – Jaya and Tom
Visually-impaired people and fundraisers from Dorset Blind Association are taking on the challenge and participating in ‘Wiltshire Big Wheel’, a 45-mile bike ride around Wiltshire. On Sunday 6 September, the team will be putting on their helmets and cycling gear in order to raise money for blind and partially-sighted people around Dorset.
Dorset Blind Association’s visually impaired members love taking on a challenge; from skydiving to driving. Now they want to push themselves to cycle 45 miles around Wiltshire, starting at the historical market town of Devizes. Although the members love taking part in anything they can, they sometimes need a little bit of help.
Are you a keen cyclist? Would you love to put your love of cycling to good use? Become a cycling pilot for one of Dorset Blind Associations members and have the opportunity to participate in events like ‘Wiltshire Big Wheel’, as well as having the opportunity to get out and about socially while making a difference to somebody’s life.
Challenge events are a great way to raise money for charities. David Shepherd, Head of Frontline Help at Barclays UK, is raising money for Dorset Blind Association by cycling nearly 500 miles from Manchester to Paris in September.
Tom, 25, from Poole says, “I really want to do this ride but because of my vision I need a tandem pilot… the bike is gathering dust in my garage!”
Barbara is 65 and is also looking for a tandem pilot. She says, “It’s just nice to get out and be active, and to have a good old natter!”
Helena Sinclair, Fundraiser at Dorset Blind Association says, “It is such a great feeling when you organise an event that visually impaired people (VIPs) want to get involved with. Our VIPs love a good challenge and never let sight loss get in the way of it.”
