Wimborne has won a gold medal for the third year in succession in the regional South and South East in Bloom competition.
The results were announced at the awards ceremony held in Fareham. The town was pipped at the post by Wareham which won the Small Town title also with a gold award. The results were telephoned through to Wimborne during the Mayor’s Civic Day when mayors and chairmen of councils across Dorset were in town at the invitation of Mayor Cllr Mrs Sue Cook. The Wareham Mayor Cllr Mrs Doreen Cleaton was present when the results were announced and there was much jubilation by both towns as there is friendly rivalry between them.
There was a silver gilt award for the second year running for Wimborne’s Redcotts Recreation Ground which had been entered in the regional Parks category.
