Bournemouth bartender aims to ‘clean-up’ in more ways than one
An award-winning Bournemouth bartender is looking to 'clean-up' once again with her entry into Talisker Whisky's 'Rewild' challenge.
Courtney Francis, the head bartender at Ojo Rojo in Bournemouth, will also be conducting a beach clean-up event at Bournemouth Pier on Tuesday 19 October, in support of her competition entry – The Talisker X OjoRojo Rambler.
The Talisker Whisky’s ‘Rewild’ challenge is held in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, an organisation which aims to rewild areas of the coastline.
The drink, inspired by Courtney’s exploration of the famous Rob Roy Way long distance footpath between Stirling and Perth, has been developed to ‘(take) its adventurer on a sensory experience by taking familiar aromas notable to hiking and transplanting these into recognisable flavours within your glass’.
With a generous measure of Talisker Port Ruighe, green walnut liqueur, homemade strawberry and mushroom cordial, and a splash of ginger ale, Courtney’s Rambler is a rich, but refreshing, drink.
The cocktail itself is served in a can, firstly to highlight the amount of water waste created when washing-up (250ml per glass, x2 when using cocktail shakers etc), alongside the fact that a recycled aluminium can is a sustainable way to take your cocktail hiking with you.
In addition, 50p from every cocktail sold will go directly to Parley for the Oceans’ efforts to rewild and protect Britain’s marine life and coastline.
Courtney already has another of her creations on sale at the celebrated cocktail bar Hacha in London following a win for ‘Best Tequila Cocktail in the UK’ last month, and is one of the top 10 finalists in the Grand Martini Cocktail Competition at the City Of London Distillery later this month.
You can try the Rambler, alongside many other cocktails created by Ojo Rojo’s award winning bartenders, at the Bournemouth Triangle restaurant.
Pulford Publicity is supporting Courtney’s beach clean-up on 19 October by donating the cleaning equipment, The CoaCoara Foundation is providing bags and gloves and several other local businesses such as The Four Horsemen Pub and Pipe Dreams are getting involved on the day as well.
