More than 160 children learned bandaging skills at a special clinic at Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s open day on Saturday 10 September.
The teddy bear clinic was among the stands on display at the open day, which attracted hundreds of visitors and showcased numerous hospital services. Over 300 people enjoyed a tour of the hospital’s theatres to see what happens behind the scenes and learn about the various equipment that can be used in surgery.
Numerous activities ran throughout the day including health talks, health checks and tours of the physiotherapy gym. Visitors were able to put their knowledge to the test at the maternity stand and choose to have their blood sugar levels tested. Other departments exhibiting included maternity, dietetics, Bournemouth Hospital charity, the emergency department, plus many more. The event also combined with the Trust’s annual members meeting which was well attended.
Bournemouth resident, Paul Barringer, said: “The hospital open day has been a great way to spend the morning and keep the grandchildren amused.
“They loved sitting in the police car and going to the teddy bear clinic and I found the diabetes stand and theatre tour very interesting.”
Theatres nurse, Rebecca Cresswell, who saw hundreds visit her department, commented: “This year’s open day has been fantastic and the feedback we have received from all ages has been great. We’ve set the bar very high for next year’s which we hope will include even more departments.
“A huge thank you to everyone who attended the event and helped make it so successful.”
