A Bournemouth man, who has raised over £4,100 for Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s March for Men as a way of saying thank you for the treatment he received, has won a top fundraiser prize.

Geoff Jones, 71, was diagnosed with prostate cancer back in 2012 and after undergoing treatment at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, signed up to the charity’s March for Men. Geoff has walked the 5km seafront route in all three March for Men events since 2013 which have have raised funds for men’s health at the hospital.
Geoff’s latest fundraising efforts of £1,200 have led to him being awarded with the March for Men Top Fundraiser Prize 2016 which is an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast at Village The Hotel Club, Bournemouth.
Geoff Jones, said: “I was really surprised to get the call to tell me I was the top fundraiser. I want to thank everyone who sponsored me and helped me to the top spot and I’m looking forward to booking my overnight stay.”
Barry Wilson, Events Officer for Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “March for Men has really grown over the last three years and has raised over £50,000 since 2013.
“We are delighted that Geoff has won the fantastic prize that was donated by the Village and hope he inspires others to get involved and sign up next year.”
Almost £19,000 was raised at the 2016 March for Men event which saw men, women and children walk or run the 1km, 5km or 10 km route along Bournemouth seafront. The funds will purchase a new Olympus image management hub that will be used alongside the hospital’s da Vinci Robot, used in complex major surgery to treat men with prostate cancer. The money will also help to buy the intra-operative BK ultrasound machine which will benefit patients with urological cancer.
